47 × 23 × 1.3 in

Nahele, the forest, opens a view into a stand of koa. The trunks are drawn by the wood’s own curves: salvaged koa, dark and light, plain beside figured grain that shifts as the light moves, with flowers of curly white sapwood. In the spaces between the trees runs kapa pattern in a contemporary form, boxed in and asymmetrical. The forest is alive, and so is the culture that gives it pattern, growing alongside the trees and still finding new forms.
